Guest Room Before & After

We will be having our first guests in our new guest bedroom in a couple of weeks!
It's been fun watching that bedroom finally come together.
And it was fun looking back through old pics from when we first moved in to see how much it has changed.

This is what the downstairs bedroom looked like when we first came to look at the house.  This was the old owner's belonging's still in the home too.
Take it all in.  The carpet.  The gold door handles.  Nasty window blinds.  Broken closet doors (which are behind the closed side of the door).  The light fixture in there was very very gold.
When we first started to move in, this room was a catch all for boxes at first, and then...
for all of the things that we didn't quite know where to put yet.
Once the carpet was ripped out in the room, Mr. H painted the inside of the closet.  He painted the inside of every closet before we moved our things into them.
This is from inside the bedroom looking out across the tiled entryway and beyond that the living room where carpet had been ripped out too.
Looking in once the flooring was finished.  And this is about when I started kicking myself for not realizing how broken and choppy this space was going to look with the tile and the wood.  We should have had the entryway tile demo'd back then and had the wood floors put there as well, but we just did that recently so I will share those before and after pics in another post.
We painted the guest bedroom walls Cathedral Grey by Behr, replaced the light fixture, switched out the door handles, put up a new bamboo window shade, and had our friend who is a handyman close in the closet on both sides so that we could fit it with mirrored closet doors instead of the white broken ones from before.
We were very thankful that we got to have the Queen bed that had been up at the cabin in Big Bear after it sold, so that was a huge help for us to not have to buy a bed for in here.  At first we put the bed where the old owners had a bed in this room.
And then we moved it underneath the window and I liked that much better.
Last week the bedding I ordered came and I was so excited to start putting it together.
Are you ready to check it out?!
(See the tile floors are gone in the entry now and the flow is so much better with the same flooring throughout this area.)
I found the key wall art and the Not all who Wonder are Lost art at Hobby Lobby.  I love the chippy paint on the key!  And I loved that the other art is on what looks like pages of an old book.  And if you know me, you know I love books so I thought this was a must for the walls.
I couldn't pass up this sand timer at TJ Maxx.  The color was just so pretty and I knew the girls would think it was neat.
The bedding and curtain panels are from Kohl's.
Aqua ruffly pillow is from Target.
The nightstands are both from Home Goods and so are the lamps.
I would still like to find a rug for the room, and a bench at the foot of the bed.  (I actually think the one in our room I want to paint and recover the fabric seat and put it in this room, along with a chair we bought on craigslist that needs a little tlc first.)
Still a few touches to add, but we're ready for guests to stay the night!

The Hass House Hotel is now accepting reservations!!!

Your Mom Looks Like A Witch...

HI.

It's me Genn.
The author of this blog.
You might have forgotten me.

Life is so crazy these days.
I miss documenting the happenings of our weeks.
But the weeks are so busy.
And they are flying by so fast.
And by the time the girls are in bed I am too tired to move.

But right now I have about 10 minutes before I have to feed the family dinner and then head off to soccer practice, and I have a funny story that I wanted to remember.  Claire is currently upstairs throwing a crying screaming fit for some reason, and Hannah is mad that I won't let her play outside for longer.  So I'm gonna try to make this quick. ;)

Today I walked into Hannah's classroom to help her teacher out.
The teacher was explaining a few things she wanted me to do for her, and out of the corner of my eye I saw Hannah cross her arms and throw her head down on top of her desk.

When the teacher was finished talking to me, the kids were getting ready to head outside for their lunch recess, and Hannah still had her head down on her desk.  I called her and she wasn't asnwering me.  Then her teacher said "Hannah, your Mom is calling you", and she ran over to me with tears in her eyes.

I pulled her in for a hug and asked what was wrong.
Her bottom lip started to quiver as she stuttered out that Trevor and Ryan said to her "Your Mom looks like a witch" when I walked into the classroom.

A witch?
LOL.
Really?
I was a little taken aback for a second and then I just laughed.
Last week was Anti Bully week and they learned different ways to "Turn a put down around".  So I reminded her of that, and said "Who cares!  Just turn it around and make a joke.  Say, "So what if she is!"
She wiped her tears and gave me a half smile and hopped in line to file out the door with her peers for lunch.

I was alone in the classroom working, and then five minutes later Hannah's teacher came back in and says to me,
"Okay, so I found out what happened and first I have to apologize!!"
She said she talked to Hannah and Trevor and Ryan and got the story straight.
Hannah thought that they said you look like a "witch",
but Ryan said "NO NO NO, I said that her Mom looks rich!"

*****LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL*****

I was dying.
But truthfully, also happy to know that those boys did not really think I looked like a WITCH.
Truth be told, I was looking down at the camo pants I had on today and wondering if those second grade boys thought that maybe camo was something only witches wear.
Nope.
But maybe they thought my fringe scarf and camo pants made me look "rich".  Or perhaps it was the dangly earrings?
Anywho, second grade misunderstanding crisis averted... Hannah's Mom just looks rich, not like a witch.
;)

And just because a post is more fun with pictures...
Fall finally feels like it is approaching.
Hannah achieved the Academic Excellence Award at her assembly last Friday...
I tried bulletproof coffee and I must say, not a fan.  It tasted like butter, which made me think it tasted like popcorn.
Claire was the cutest little farmer for Pumpkin Patch day in Kindergarten...
And the girls had a blast at Gma GG's neighborhood Carnival and Trick or Treat party last weekend.  Rapunzel & a Witch...  Maybe it runs in the family?  Get it? a witch?  HAHAHAHA.

That's all for now.
We've made some fun house progress which I hope to blog one of these days.
Gotta go.
Spaghetti and an IPA are calling my name.  ;)
