Kitchen Shot... Before We Moved In & Now

It's Saturday!
The good news is I slept until 7am.
The bad news is I've got a cold and was up until 1am.
Mr. H is working today.
He's got a cold too.
But we're plowing through it.
Today I'm taking the girls to a friend's bday party.

After I cleaned up the kitchen from breakfast, I remembered this picture I had taken of the kitchen when we first looked at the house...

So I thought it might be fun to see it side by side with a picture of what the kitchen looks like right now...

To quote a line from Clueless (one of the only movies Mr. H thinks I quote lines from...whatever)

"Not a total Betty, but a vast improvement."

;)

Hope you're having a good weekend.
Peace Out.

What I Wore Wednesday

I'm linking up with The Pleated Poppy again for What I Wore Wednesday.
Sharing my outfits from the week, in an effort to get dressed instead of lounging in my yoga pants.  :)

Heading into the salon for work...
military jacket- BP Nordie's, striped tank- BP Nordie's, skinny jeans- See Thru Soul BP Nordie's, and sandals- Sam Edleman Nordie's.
I guess I'm a walking Nordstrom ad in this outfit!
Even my necklace and MK watch are from Nordie's too.

I was trying to rock day 4 dirty hair here, so I had to pull out my secret weapon.  TIGI Dirty Secret Dry Shampoo.  Works like a charm every single time!
I also played with some of my hair chalk that morning too.

The theme this week seemed to be military jackets.
Here I am wearing it again...
With some cut off denim shorts by Mossimo from Target, and a Mossimo black pocket tee.
And rainbow flips.
After having been on my feet all day on Wednesday for long hours, Thursdays I am usually sporting some comfy shoes.

I wore this to work on Saturday...
black maxi skirt- Mossimo Target, camo tank- Old Navy, black cami underneath camo tank- BP Nordie's, sandals- Nordie's
Earrings are from Old Navy too.

Last week I had some Super Cash to use at Old Navy so I popped in one morning while the girls were at vbs to see what I could find.
I don't usually like strapless things.  And I don't have many dresses, so I liked this comfy striped dress.  I liked it paired with my military jacket, but I was picturing it with a fun scarf and big hair too.  ;)
This racerback cotton dress was simple and comfy.  I was thinking it'll be good for those hot hot August and September days when you really don't want to wear any clothes at all.  And it would look cute thrown over a swimsuit too.  I wound up getting the grey one.

Heading to the salon on my day off to get my hair done while the girls were at vbs... (I sure have been productive thanks to that wonderful vbs!)
striped sweater- Mossimo Target, tank top- Old Navy, yellow tank underneath- Target, cut off shorts- Old Navy, Toms- Nordie's

My friend and I did each other's hair using the balayage technique.  We were going for natural sun kissed looking highlights.  I really like it.  It's hard to see in the pics here but my ends are a lot lighter and I love the softness it adds throughout.  Now it's easy maintenance for several months while I just touch up my regrowth at the roots until I need balayage again.
I got a fresh cut too and I've been cutting it myself for too long now so it feels so fresh and nice again.

Running errands and feeling kinda tired so this is all I came up with here...
my other military jacket (Yes I have two.  And Yes I need two.  And Yes I might need one more this fall.) from BP Nordie's, striped tee- Old Navy, jean shorts- see thru soul- BP Nordie's, and coral crochet Toms- Nordie's.
This leather tote is also from BP.  It's a cognac color here, and also reversible with black on the inside.  It's so big and holds all my crap and I love the look of it.

That's a wrap for this week.
Do you have a military jacket or a piece you wear from your closet all the time???

Bathroom & Front Porch Before & Afters

Hi friends.
So I'm finally getting around to sharing the pictures of the so far only finished room in our new house.
The downstairs bathroom.
The smallest room to tackle.  At least we can say we have one room done.  (For now.  Some day we'd like to tile the shower but that's a ways down the road.  I want a new kitchen before we do something like that.)
So this is a pic I snapped of the downstairs bath before we moved in...
And as soon as we moved in we starting trying to figure out a paint color...
I wanted to find a blue that would tie into the little bit of blue that's in the shower curtain.
After several test colors, we wound up using Harbor by Behr.
I bought the new light fixture at Lowe's.
Mr. H took down the builder mirror and we found the new one at Kirkland's.
He also painted the oak vanity black.
I'd like to paint the shiny metal frame of the medicine cabinet an oil rubbed bronze.  Anybody done that before?  I wonder how well the paint would stick.  Now that I'm looking at this picture I really want to do that.  When we moved in I took out all the shelving inserts from inside the medicine cabinet and bleached them.  It cleaned up pretty nice, but the outside could use some paint.  The canvas is a picture that I took from our Bad Hass Family Vacay in San Diego a couple summers ago.
I found the towel hooks at TJ Maxx.  Or Home Goods.  One of those places.
And we wanted more storage in this bathroom for when we have guests, so we bought this cabinet above the toilet at Bed Bath & Beyond.

One more time, here's before...
and After...
And just a keepin' it real picture for ya.
The door behind the stairs is the door to the bathroom.
 On another note,
today at Target I saw this super cute aqua patio chair on clearance and I had to have it.
The navy chevron pillows were on clearance for only $10!!! I have one that I bought last month, so I was excited to buy two more on sale. And the seat cushions were pretty picked over because they are also on clearance, but I thought the red and white striped one would look good in the aqua chair on our front porch next to our red door.
I plan on getting a bench for the porch too.  And I'd really like to find a yellow garden stool too.  Or something yellow.  Here's a quick look at what the front porch area looked like when we moved in...
While I do think those huge succulents were pretty, it was just too much.  We couldn't even see the space.  This was the view from inside the house looking out the front window before...
You can't see anything!
And the front of the house after...
So we had it all torn out, and Mr. Hass painted the shutters shown here and the two front facing window shutters black, and the front door went from a flat green to a shiny happy red.  And this is the view from inside the living room window looking out now...
Much better view.
Eventually we'd like to get wooden shutters for all the windows in the front of the house.
For now the living room is mostly empty.
Last weekend we picked up a few plants at Lowe's for the front.
We asked my Mom for some advice on the placement of things.  She's a gardening pro and I don't have much of a green thumb, so I hope my new plants stay alive!
We also got a new hose box that is much prettier than our old one we had out front.
The girls loved digging.
And I LOVE my new vinyl 'hello' sticker that I bought on etsy.  :)
I'll show ya the end result when we finish up with the front.

We also grabbed these two fun red adirondack chairs at Lowe's...
And my new $10 Target clearance chevron pillows look great on them!
It all ties in with the chevron rug I bought recently too.
That's it for now.
Hope your week is off to a great start.
I'm about to go hop in the spa.
And then watch Scandal!
Are you watching it?
We're only on season 1 but it's good.
We're hooked!

What I Wore Wednesday

It's been a while since I've participated in WIWW.
I've missed it.
And with all the fun inspiration out there on Pinterest I figured I'd try to get back into it.
So here's a few of my recent outfits.
Sorry no full body pic for this outfit.  Here are the deets:
palazzo pants- Target, royal blue layering tank- BP Nordie's, black racerback tank (with pretty back detail)- Old Navy, and my new fun necklace is from the fun Baublebar line at Nordstrom.

Guess I forgot to get the whole outfit in this one too.  But these summer sandals seem to be my favorite to grab right now.  I got them on sale at Nordstrom with some of my birthday money.  They are by Sam Edelman and they are so comfy.

Not too fancy in this pic.  Just keepin' it real. (Can't wait til we have mirrored closet doors in the bathroom and I don't have to slunch down to use this one.)
green t shirt- Old Navy active, capris- Old Navy active, hat- Roxy, and shoes- Nike.

Later that night Mr. H and I went out to see a movie.  A couple of the girls we have babysit are sisters and the oldest one just got her driver's license.  She drove them both over and drove them home! Awesommmmeee.  Anyway, here's my outfit...annnnd I didn't make my bed, so pretend I did...
striped tank- Merona from Target, royal blue linen pants- Roxy from the Quiksilver Outlet, denim jacket- Kut from the Kloth @ Nordie's.  Earrings are Kate Spade from Nordie's, and necklace is from World Market.
black flips- Havianas from Nordstrom.  And what do ya think of that fun navy pouf?
Target clearance for the win!!!  I was looking for a stool to put my feet on while I'm at the computer in the kitchen.  This was on sale, works as a foot stool, and also works as a seat.  I love it.
We saw Chef at the movies and loved it.
One of the better movies we've seen in a long time.
And I thought it was aweseome that Jon Favreau wrote it, directed it, and produced it.  He did a great job with it.
Since we caught a 5:30 matinee we snuck our dinner in!  We're rebels.  I made these chicken, avocado, cheesy cilantro burritos a week ago and froze a bunch.  I just heated two up before our movie and voila, dinner and a show.  :)

This outfit is the same as the previous one, only different colored pants and tank.
pink Merona tank- Target, Roxy linen pants- Nordstrom swimsuit department, leopard scarf- Target, and I wore my black Haviana flip flops with it.

On our way to VBS.  The girls are signed up for Summer Camp at their old preschool everyday this week and next.  They love it, and so do I.  For the win.  ;)
This morning while they were at camp I went to Lowe's for a couple things for the new house.
Then I plopped myself down at Barnes & Boble for a bit.  It was glorious.

Thanks for stopping by today.
Head on over to The Pleated Poppy to check out the other What I Wore Wednesday entries and perhaps find some inspiration from all those stylish ladies.
