Broken Bones

**Warning**

Those of you who do not like the sight of blood, or broken bones may want to look away... (Actually the pictures don't really do the injury justice, so it doesn't look that bad)

Wednesday night Jake broke his middle finger during his softball game. He plays on a team with my Dad and I tease him that it is OLD MAN'S SLOW PITCH SOFTBALL, how do you get hurt in old man's slow pitch softball. Ha ha ha. He was put at 2nd base and he always plays the outfield so right there, that's a sign something might happen. He went down to field a grounder and the ball bounced and hit his middle finger of his right hand straight on. The guy next to him said he heard his finger snap. Yuck.
Jake said by the time he looked down at it, blood was already coming out from underneath his fingernail. He got an x-ray yesterday and they confirmed that it is broken. The tip of the bone snapped off and is now hanging underneath the pad of his finger. Again, yuck. It is really swollen and the Dr. said it is a good thing it's still bleeding, otherwise they might have to drain it. Another yuck. He has to go to an ortho doctor now and see what needs to be done from here to make sure it heals correctly.

Sunday in Paradise

Paradise...

I wonder what the rich people were doing last Sunday...(That is a joke that my mom and her friend Jae would always say when they were floating on rafts in the pool during the summertime.)

As for me, I was with my best friend Kelly at Glen Ivy Hot Springs Spa. Kelly's birthday was last week and I thought she might benefit from a spa day after recently giving birth to twins, so that is just what we did. Lucky me got to benefit from Kelly's gift as well.

We were worried about rain all week, but it didn't start until we got in the car to go home. Glen Ivy is usually so busy, and especially on the weekends, but I think with the possibility of rain showers it was much slower than usual. Which was great for us because we REALLY got some peace and quiet. We set up camp by the float pool. This pool is only a couple feet deep and during the summer it is packed with people on their blue rafts.

They have recently done a lot of remodeling at Glen Ivy, so behind our lounge chairs is the new cafe, and above are the terraces you can rent for the day.

One of the "quiet" areas for lounging

The red clay. You are supposed to put this red clay all over your body and sit in the sun to dry. Then you rinse in the showers and it is a great exfoliant. Then you are supposed to go down to The Grotto, (which we did, but not the clay) to get a moisturizing body mask painted on you. Neither one of us had ever done The Grotto before, and were both a little nervous since we are claustrophobic. It is all underground and you take an elevator down. It wasn't bad at all though. In the first cave room that you go into you are supposed to sit and rub the mask in all over, and Kelly and I were pacing back and forth looking for the exits because it was all enclosed with no windows and very warm in there. I don't think we relaxed properly in The Grotto.

This is a picture of the big pool when you first walk in. In the summertime it is always so refreshing, but we spent so much time in the hot tubs and sauna rooms that we didn't even go in this one.

We got there at about 9:30am and Kelly had to go straight to her massage. My massage (which was wonderful, and thanks MOM you helped me pay for it! I used my gift certificate from last year's Christmas!) was not until an hour later, so I went into one of the hot tubs first and it was really crowded... Not.

I love how lush it looks at Glen Ivy. Every which way there is beautiful tropical foilage to enjoy. I took this picture standing right by our lounge chairs and it was so pretty because through the trees you could see the white snow capped mountains in the distance. My camera did not do it justice at all.

This is the path down to the massage building. So pretty. I want to live at Glen Ivy.

I hate this picture of myself, but I think Kelly looks cute (even though she didn't think so-sorry Kelly, yes you do) and I thought you might be getting sick of looking at all my pictures with no people. As the day wore on, a few more people trickled in to the spa, but it was never crowded. We had such a great time enjoying girl talk, lunch, and more.

This is me all showered up and ready to head home. Do I look relaxed?

Happy Birthday Kelly! Thanks for coming with me, I can't wait to do it again. Maybe next time we can work on our tans.

3 Months Old

Our little Claire Bear is 3 months old already, and changing right before our eyes. She's finally starting to get back to what her schedule was before she got sick. She now weighs 12 lbs. 12 oz. She drinks about 5 oz of formula every 3 hours, and is waking up currently twice a night to eat. She is smiling and giggling all the time, and loves to watch Hannah play. She's wearing size 2 diapers, and already growing out of most 3mos. size pajamas and clothes. It is crazy to think that she is only 3 months, and yet I have a hard time remembering life without her.

I know there is a better way to display these pictures using picasa, but I am not patient enough to figure it out, so here is the old school way of posting them.

Pictures From This Week

Today was a long and trying day for me. Claire is better and almost 100% recovered from her cold, but she still does not seem to be herself. She was so fussy all day. I really did not know what to do with her. At one point I just left her to cry in her crib for a while because I knew she was okay and nothing I did seemed to please her. I feel bad that I can actually feel like I am mad at her for not being good all day. It is not her fault, I know she is a baby, but I am a tired Mommy who hasn't had a full nights sleep in 3 months. Claire was finally sleeping better right before this cold hit her, and now she is waking up multiple times a night again.

Up until recently I have been pretty proud of myself for being able to get myself and both girls dressed and out the door at a decent time in the morning if we had to be somewhere. Now it seems like I can't even get my shower in until one of them takes their afternoon nap, and by that time I don't want to shower, I want to lay down and take a nap too. I know a lot of that has to do with the fact that both kids have been sick, and it's been raining a lot, so we've just been staying home a bit more. But I am starting to go a little stir crazy. This weekend I think I will try to get to Babies R Us and buy the double stroller that I am hoping will make it easier to go places with both kids.
Anyway, I am tired, and now I feel like I am just rambling so I will stop. Here are a few random pictures from this week.

This was taken on the 17th when Claire turned 3 months. None of the pics I took turned out that great. I will have to try agian.
Of course she had to wear her rain boots on a rainy day. Don't you?
One of the few smiles I've seen on this girl all week.
Hannah working on her new Dora puzzle. She did all of this completely by herself. She organizes the pieces by the colors that are similar, and then she starts to put it together. She amazes me.
Claire in outfit # 1 this morning. (She needed to change several times) and speaking of change, you don't even want to know how many diapers I changed today. I'm telling you, it was not a fun day. Jake said no wonder Claire was so fussy for me all day, he would have cried too if I put that ridiculous bow on his head. ...I think she liked it.
Hopefully Claire sleeps better tonight and the weekend is somewhat easier. Jake is off this weekend, which means I am working. I work Saturday and Sunday I have plans with Kelly to go to Glen Ivy Hot Springs for a day of relaxation.

Bye-Bye Ka

Bye-Bye Ka! That's right. (For those of you who don't know, ka, pronounced caw, is what Hannah calls her pacifier) This morning I was on the phone wishing Kelly a Happy Birthday and Jake and Hannah were horsing around in the living room. What transpired in the living room was a breakthrough. I missed it because Kelly and I were yapping, so Jake filled me in after I got off the phone.

Hannah was biting on her ka (pacifier), and Jake told her not to do that or it might break. Then as he looked closer he realized that she did break it. So he pointed it out to her and said it's broken Hannah. She saw this, agreed that it was broken, and said "okay, go throw it away". She waited patiently by my side for me to get off the phone, and then she went to the trash and threw her pacifier away. Just like that. We only had one more spare, so we cut the nipple off that one too, just in case she wanted that one later on.

She did not ask for it again...until nap time. We just told her it was broken, remember? She cried and cried and threw a fit. She did not want us to read her a story before her nap like we usually do. So we left her alone to grieve over her lost ka. She cried for about 10 minutes and fell asleep on the floor.

She woke up crying about an hour later, asking me for her ka. I said it's in the trash, it broke, you are a big girl and you don't need it anymore, yadi yadi ya...
So later on she asked to see the other ka and I showed her that it was broken too. She stuck her bottom lip out and started to cry. I distracted her with toys, and later before bedtime she wanted to go throw the other ka in the trash too. She threw it away and said "Bye ka." It was the cutest thing I'd ever seen. And she went to bed without any tears. I guess that's that. Goodbye ka.

Nurse Mommy

Spray, suction, wipe, attempt to feed a screaming baby...spray, suction, wipe, attempt to feed a screaming baby... What did you do last weekend?

The medicine...
The patient...

I think someone has been sick in my family for almost 4 weeks straight now. We have had a rough couple of weeks. It is always so stressful when your kids get sick, and this was just a bad cold that we all got. I can't imagine how stressful a much more serious ailment can be. It started out with Jake catching a bad cold. Then Hannah must have caught a different cold when she got sick. Because Jake got better, Hannah got worse, and then Jake got sick again. Then I caught Jake's (or Hannah's) cold. I was really hoping that Claire would sail through without catching it, but how could she? All of us were sneezing and blowing our nose all over the place, so she was bound to get it.
Claire came down with her symptoms last Tuesday night. So of course, my first day back to work she had her first, full blown cold, and her Mommy wasn't even home to take care of her. She was okay at first, but by Friday she was hardly eating at all and had a pretty productive sounding cough. Friday night into Saturday she would hardly touch a bottle, and I was worried about her getting dehydrated, so I took her to Urgent Care Saturday morning. The Dr. said what we figured he would, which is that she had the same crud that's been going around, but unfortunately it's hard in infants because they obviously can't tell you what hurts.
He suggested tylenol before feedings because she might have a stomach ache with the cold. We did that, and it helped. Today she seems much better. Still coughing, and not eating quite as much as usual, but better. I sure am tired though. Jake worked last weekend, and poor Claire constantly needed her nose suctioned, and tylenol, and wanted to constantly be held. And poor Hannah wanted me to "Set Care down right der..." and play with her.
I am feeling better now, Jake's second cold is almost gone, Hannah is no longer coughing, and hopefully Claire will be 100% soon too.

Sink Time

With the rainy weather, and a sick infant, poor Hannah has been a little neglected and a bit restless. A couple days ago, while doing my blog reading, I came across a friend's sister's blog. It is all about creative activites to do indoors with your kids. Such cute stuff, but one thing I came across that I knew Hannah would love, was sink time. She loves to play with her toys in the tub, so why not the sink? I set it up for her, and she played for an hour. Such a clever and easy thing, yet I don't think I would have ever come up with that myself.

Sleeping Beauty

Every night before I go to bed, I check on both my babies. I always find Hannah in the most obsurd sleeping positions. She never seems to mind though. A few nights ago this is how I found her. Good thing she has that rail along side her bed. Who knows what will happen when that is gone.

Disneyland in the Rain

I am a little late in getting this posted. Last weekend Jake's mom was here visiting. The week before she came we had nothing but beautiful sunny skies and a nice warm 70 degree temperature everyday. Of course that did not last through the weekend that we had plans to be going and doing outdoor things. Thursday night the rain started, and it did everything from rain, drizzle, pour, thunder, and hail all weekend. Sunday we thought we might have a break in the rain so we went ahead with our plans to go to Disneyland. We had been cooped up in the house all weekend. It is hard to think of things to go do with a 2 yr. old and 2 month old in the rain. So we did not do much.

Arriving at Disneyland. It was sunny when we got there and a bit chilly, but not raining...yet.

Claire was making some beautiful spit bubbles when we arrived.

My attempt at a picture with both kids failed as always. I am smiling for you though.

Hannah doing her thing on the carousel. This girl is getting her routine down at Disneyland. After this ride she said, "Ok Mama now we go to Dumbo."

This is the brief moment that Claire was awake at Disneyland. Shortly after this she fell asleep for the rest of our time there.

Grandma Hass took Hannah on Dumbo.

After Dumbo Hannah said "Go to tea cups now, ok lets go." So bossy.

It had only sprinkled off and on in the morning, but when they were in line for the tea cups it started to rain. I stood with an umbrella covering myself and Claire in the stroller, but Claire was probably the warmest and coziest out of all of us. She was in her carseat with plenty of blankets sound asleep.

Jake, Diane and Hannah rode the train while I waited for them with Claire. While I was waiting I am pretty sure I saw Diane Keaton walk by me. I gave her a second glance and I think she realized so she quickly walked away.

We've had our passes to Disneyland for a whole year now and It's A Small World has been closed the whole time. It is finally back open and I really thought Hannah would love it so we went to get in line. The line was long, but we thought it would be worth it. As soon as we got in line it started pouring. I thought we would be leaving shortly after, but we were crazy and we stayed in the pouring rain. It was an adventure. Unfortunately I did not get to go on It's A Small World because Claire was sound asleep in her stroller and I did not want to take her out and check our stroller in the pouring rain. They said Hannah was not crazy about the ride because she didn't like the dark tunnels. I guess she didn't love it like I thought she might.

Usually we do not allow Hannah to have her pacifier other than nap times and bedtime, but she's been sick and at this time in the day it was past her naptime and she was tired. I was so impressed with her. She was so good and well behaved even though she was so tired. I think she was just having too much fun. After they did It's A Small World Claire was still sleeping so Diane stayed with her and Jake, Hannah, and I got in line for the Autopia cars. It was a long wait and Hannah was being so sweet and cute while we were waiting. I can't believe that she never threw a fit.

Care Bear came along for the Autopia cars too.

It got so cold outside and Hannah's poor litte hands felt like ice.

Riding in the car with Hannah was my favorite part of the whole day. Hannah giggled the whole time and she was just too funny. I pushed the gas and she had control of the wheel. She had me laughing so hard.

I know this picture is hard to see, but it just makes me laugh. My hands are in the air, and you can just barely see the top of Hannah's head steering the car. Lord help me when I really have to let her get behind the wheel.

While Jake & Diane went on Pirates of the Carribean, Hannah, Claire and I hung out by the pond and fed the ducks. Hannah got such a kick out of it. I am sure you are not supposed to feed them, but they sure did love our colored goldfish. After Jake & Diane got back we posed for a few pictures and then headed home. We stayed until 4pm which is the longest we've been there with kids.

A little milk does a body good.

Family photo with of course Claire asleep in the stroller, and Hannah, refusing to look at the camera.
I wish I took a picture of people at the park when it was pouring rain. You would think the weather would make everyone run for cover but it appeared to be the opposite. People just had rain ponchos on, strollers with the waterproof zip covers, babies in the bjorn with the zip blankets and hoodies on. I guess a little rain won't scare Disneyland fans away.
Hannah kinda looked for this shot.

On the tram back to our car.

My view from the back on the way home. It felt strange to be facing Claire and behind Hannah.

I tried so hard to get a cute picture of the girls in their matching outfits. This was the best I got, and it's not good, but at least you can kind of see that they have adorable matching clothes on. It was so fun to dress them like that, I think I want to buy them tons of matching clothes. I used to always say I wouldn't do that, but I think there are a lot of things I said I would not do before I was a MOM.

I know this picture is dark but I thought it was cute. I think it looks like she just got home and kicked her shoes off to get comfy.

This post took me forever. I feel like it deserves one of these...

THE END!
