Christmas Day 2010

Hannah woke up at 6:40am and yelled, "Mom! Dad! I'm awake!"
We knew the girls would be tired because they didn't get to bed until later on Christmas Eve so we tried to tell Hannah to lay down for a few more minutes and rest (really I wanted Claire to sleep a little bit longer).  But Hannah said, "But Santa came and I see my Strawberry Shortcake house downstairs."
And so downstairs we went...
Claire ran straight to her new ballerina doll that she got from Grandma GG the night before.  She loves dancing with her.
Lots of princess things were unwrapped.
Claire was most excited to open this one.  She realized what it was and yelled "Backpack!"
A picture of my presents, and a picture of my favorite present!  The 50mm lens I was hoping for, and the grey card that I wanted!!

After gifts at our house, we brushed our teeth (well, I did) and poured ourselves a huge thermos full of more coffee (well, Mr. Hass and I did), and we threw tantrums and fought and screamed and acted nasty (well, Hannah and Claire did) and we got in the car and headed to my parents house to celebrate and open gifts with them and my sister and Noah and my brother.

All of these pictures were taken with my new lens.
I am so used to zooming that I will have to get used to a prime lens again.
I am also not used to the bright light that streams into my mom's house through their huge front window in the morning.  I was dealing with some pretty funky reflections, and in hindsight I probably would have taken better pictures if I was shooting in front of the window instead of facing the window.  Oh well.   I'm an amateur.  A rookie.
Noah checking out his new Toy Story bat and ball from Hannah and Claire.
Can you tell that Hannah was tired?
Just me, playing around with my new lens.  Taking pictures of anything that would let me.  Like candy canes.

Aunt E and Claire, trying to figure something out.
Mr. Hass sporting his new Kellen Moore jersey.

My sister, whipping up some eggs and sausage.
We had a phenomenal breakfast.  Eggs, Jimmy Dean breakfast sausage, french toast strata, and Paula Deen's gorilla bread.  I love Christmas breakfast.
Fighting over the marshmallow blower.  While Geeps stares dumbfoundedly at the other marshmallow blower.
Drew and Mr. Hass listening to my Dad tell them what their gift is.
I guess "somebody" forgot to print out the tickets.
Tickets to the Western Regional Finals of the NCAA Basketball Tournament.  Three games on two different days.
To say they are excited is an understatement.
Love this one of Hannah peeking over her Geeps' shoulder to see what he got.
A bit of the aftermath.
We came home, bathed the kids and let them play a bit.
Then put them both in rooms for naps.  Claire slept.  Hannah did not.

Mr. Hass and I put almost everything away.
I can't stand it when things in my house do not have a home.
We pulled out the storage totes I bought on sale at Target, and quickly organized most of the girls toys.

Then we watched Grown Ups (while still in our pj's).
It was not that great.
But nice to just lay down for a bit.
Then I actually got dressed.
Went back to my parents for a nice dinner that they had for us.
It was nice and relaxing.
We were all pretty worn out from such a busy weekend.
I set up the tri pod for this one.
It turned out okay.
I'm glad I got a picture of us all that night.

Hope everyone has a safe and happy new year tonight!
No crazy plans for us.
Putting kids to bed.
Maybe popping some homemade popcorn, and watching Eclipse!
I haven't seen it yet, can you believe that?

Dear Claire,

I have really procrastinated writing about you after you turned two Claire.
Maybe it is because after two comes three.
And three seems so big.  No more baby left in three.

As I drove to work this morning, listening to my new Taylor Swift cd, I heard the song "Never Grow Up" for the first time.  Before I knew it, I was in tears listening to the beautiful words of the song.  It made me think of you and Hannah.  It made me wish that I could keep you both little.  That I could protect you from anything or anyone that might ever hurt you in this life.  It made me want to tell you to stay little.  It made me wish that none of us had to ever grow up.
Last month when we took you to your two year check up appointment you weighed 31 pounds and were roughly 38 inches tall.  I say "roughly" because you go into full panic mode when the nurses so much as look at you, so it was a "rough" estimation of your height, considering.
Giving knucks to your Daddy as you ran by with that cute smile on your face.

You are loads of fun Claire.
You are also loads of work.
You have such an adventurous personality.  We often say that you are like a bull in a china shop.  Running here, knocking things down there, climbing this, jumping off that.  Really, it's true.

You hardly ever make it through the day without needing a change of clothes.  You love to get dirty.  I don't even think you know you do, but you do.
You recently started to climb up onto your changing table all by yourself.  The funny thing is that you have not been brave enough to find a way down once you get up there, so you just cry out "Mamma" until I come rescue you.
You are truly the messiest eater I have ever seen.  We love to tease you about it, but it is all in good fun.  You really do love your food.  You are the most quiet that you are all day when you are eating a meal.  And also the messiest.  A few weeks ago I made pulled pork burgers on baby buns, and you ate two whole burgers.  I could not believe it.  Hannah did not touch her burger, and you ate two.
I am constantly reminded that I should never under estimate what you might do Claire.  On November 20th, you and Hannah were sitting at the island, doing some coloring.  I must have been busy with dinner or something and when I looked to see how you were doing, you had emptied your box of crayons, peeled the paper off of every single one, broken each crayon into about 6 tiny pieces and had them ground into every nook and cranny of your booster seat imaginable.  I am still finding bits of green crayon underneath your seat.
You love your routine Claire.
You always look forward to bath time after dinner, but you absolutely hate to get washed.  When it's time to wash your hair I just dread it.  You kick and scream, and hold your breath, and then scream some more, splashing water all over the tub.  I don't know why you hate it so.  I am gentle, I try to keep it out of your eyes, I check the temperature of the water for you.  And still, you scream.

A couple weeks ago I was folding laundry on my bed while you and Hannah were playing in the tub.  I peeked in to check on you, and you were squeezing almost an entire new bottle of shampoo straight into the water.  Giggling like it was the most funny thing you'd ever seen.  Oh I was mad.  I just bought that.  Now we were out again.  And more recently I caught you doing the same thing with the bubble bath, half a bottle straight into the already plenty soapy bath water.
Your favorite movies are Beauty and the Beast, and Tinkerbell.  Those two hold your attention like nothing else.  Oh, and The Princess and the Frog.  That one makes you laugh.  Belle is your favorite character, and you say "Belle" and "Booty" (Beauty) whenever you see any princess.

You and Hannah have lots of fun playing together, but you also spend a lot of time arguing over things.  It is difficult right now for both of you.  Hannah gets frustrated because you don't talk much, and you get frustrated, and don't have the words, so you just scream like a banshee and that makes us all go a little crazy.

One thing is certain though Claire, you are ruthless.
You might not have a large vocabulary just yet, but you can certainly hold your own.  You don't take no crap from nobody.
Get her with a nice firm arm pulling, and if that doesn't work...
simply resort to the head butting method.
The funny thing about these pictures is that Hannah tried to steal your shopping cart, and we have TWO shopping carts to try and prevent this exact scenario.

Just last week on December 23, 2010 you jumped out of your crib for the first time.  You were supposed to be napping and I knew you weren't, but I was not rushing upstairs to come get you.  Suddenly I heard a loud THUMP, and then I heard you doing the ugly cry, and I thought Oh Lord, she jumped and she's broken something.  I ran upstairs faster than I thought possible, and there you were, banging on the crib slats, trying to get back in.

Claire you make me smile every day.
You have the softest cheeks, and you still have that bit of a baby smell.
I sniff you all the time, and give those cheeks hundreds of kisses on a daily basis.
I hope I never forget the images of you carrying around your nie nie, with your tongue sticking out, while you run your fingers up and down that blanket, while it is nestled up against your face.
My crazy Claire Bear.
I love you with all my heart.

Lyrics to "Never Grow Up"
by Taylor Swift

Your little hand's wrapped around my finger/
and it's so quiet in the world tonight, your eyelids flutter cause your dreaming/
so i tuck you in, turn on your favorite night light/
to you everything's funny, you got nothing to regret/
i'd give all i have honey
if you could stay like that/

Oh darling don't you ever grow up/ don't you ever grow up/
just stay this little/
oh darling don't you ever grow up/
don't you ever grow up/
it could stay this simple/
i won't let nobody hurt you/
won't let no one break your heart/
and no one will desert you/
just try to never grow up, never grow up

You're in the car on your way to the movies/
and you're mortified that your mom is dropping you off/
at 14, there's just so much you can't do/
and you can't wait to move out someday and call your own shots/
but don't make her drop you off around the block/
remember that she's getting older too/
and don't lose the way that you dance around in your pj's getting ready for school/

Oh darling don't you ever grow up, don't you ever grow up/
just stay this little/
oh darling don't you ever grow up, don't you ever grow up/
it could stay this simple/
no one's ever burned you/
nothing's ever left you scarred/
and even though you want to/
please try to never grow up

Take pictures in your mind of your childhood room/
memorize what it sounded like when your dad gets home/
remember the footsteps, remember the words said/
and all your little brother's favorite songs/
i just realized that everything i have is gonna someday be gone/

So here i am in my new apartment/
in a big city, they just dropped me off/
it's so much colder than i thought it would be/
so i tuck myself in and turn my night light on/

Wish i'd never grown up, i wish i'd never grown up/
oh i don't wanna to grow up/
wish i'd never grown up/
i could still be little/
oh i don't wanna grow up/
wish i'd never grown up/
it could still be simple

Oh darling don't you ever grow up/
don't you ever grow up/
just stay this little/
oh darling dont' you ever grow up/
dont you ever grow up/
it could stay this simple/
won't let nobody hurt you/
won't let nobody break your heart/
and even though you want to/
please try to never grow up/
don't you ever grow up/
oh/ never grow up/

just never grow up.

What I Wore Wednesday...

I must say,
reading everyone's nice comments every Wednesday really encourages me to keep this up.  Seriously, your kind words have really made my day many times.

I think most everyone can be hard on themselves for different things at times, and it is really fun to read such kind words to boost your confidence from time to time.  So thank you!

I am linking up with Lindsey at The Pleated Poppy.  Be sure to pay her a visit, and check in with all the other great gals who participate in wiww!  You might get some great ideas.

Wednesday- Headed to work.  It was raining, so guess what shoes I wore...
striped henley- Old Navy
white cami- BP Nordies
skinnies- Vigoss
boots- Hunters
jacket- DKNY Nordstrom (years ago)
hat- Charlotte Russe
long necklace- BP

No pic for Thursday.  Don't even remember Thursday.

Friday- aka Christmas Eve.  I had a little running around to do that morning with the girls.  I just went comfy.
purple hoodie- BP Nordies
pants- black Juicy Couture velour

Friday evening- dinner at Grandma's house.
tunic- Kohl's
leggings- LC Kohl's
socks- Forever21
boots- Unionbay Kohl's
necklace- Target
earrings- boutique

Saturday- Christmas.  Honestly who wasn't in their pajamas most of the day?  After the girls took naps at home we went back to my parents house for dinner and we all dressed pretty comfortably.
hat- gift from parents for Christmas (love it!)
sweatshirt- Kohl's last year
skinnies- Vigoss
boots- sweater Uggs

Saturday- I thought would be a nice relaxing around the house family day... Mr. Hass was off work... the girls should be happy and content for hours with all of their new toys...
Was that how the day went?
Not even close.
The girls were tired and cranky and awnry and I was exhausted and did not want to listen to it for one more second.
So I showered.  Did my hair.  Slapped some make up on and ran to Target.  And Pier1 Imports.
Then I came home even more tired.
 grey shirt- LC Kohl's
black long sleeve- Old Navy
jeans- Hudson
boots- BC Footwear Nordie's
necklace- F21
purse-boutique party at work

Later that afternoon I swapped my Hudson jeans for my stretchy pajama pants and tried to relax amongst the still tired and cranky little people living in my house.  ;)
Oh, and Mr. Hass is sporting a Boiste State Broncos t- shirt
gifted by me for Christmas- The Blue and Orange Store (.com)
and a royal blue thermal- Target

Tuesday-  I was so not feeling like getting dressed and going to work.  But I thought that maybe if I dressed nice instead of going in something comfy and scrubby, that I might get in a better work mood.  And ya know what?  I did.
 green tank- Old Navy
black sweater- BP Nordie's
jeggings- Elle MacPherson Kohl's
belt- F21
fishnet socks- Target
flats- Unionbay Kohl's
earrings- BP Nordie's
necklace-F21

That last look with the belt over the shirt and sweater is probably not something I would have done if it wasn't for wiww!
I used to think that looked good on other people, but that it would make me look fat.
Why? I don't know.  I'm a girl.  We think weird things right.
So after seeing so many people wear a belt with a sweater and shirt like that, I thought why not, I will try it.
And I loved it.
And I got lots of compliments at work on my cute outfit.
So thanks to all you participants of wiww for inspiring me this week!!!

Christmas Eve...

On Christmas Eve the girls and I followed my parents out to my Grandma's house.  Mr. Hass was planning on coming after he got off work.
Noah and Aunt E and David were already there visiting with Grandma and Nana when we arrived.  I had barely set my bags down and saw this great photo opportunity.  Grandma Gigi (Gigi... or GG for great grandma...) with all the kiddos piled in her lap.

I love this one of Hannah showing Nana a new toy she got from her Grandma Hass.
I love this one too.  Isn't my Grandma so pretty?
After a little visiting, the kids were eager to get outside and go for a boat ride.
Can you blame them?

Lucky for me, Mr. Hass showed up just before our sunset cruise around the lake.
Always nice to have one more strong swimmer on board, should any little ones decide to go for a swim.   I am so nervous with them around water.  When does that stop?  Ever?  Or are large bodies of water suddenly substituted for boys, and then cars, and then...  yeah.
The best pic of the two of us I had on my camera.

Love the looks on both their faces in this one.  Claire sitting with my Dad while they looked at all of the beautiful lights.  Everyone in my Grandma's neighborhood really goes all out.  They do up their houses so nice, and most of the boats are all lit and decorated too.
Before we left the house, I asked Nana if she was coming and she said to me,
"Have you ever known me to stay behind when something fun is going on?"
That's my Nana.
Every time that my girls get to see Nana, I am so grateful for the time they get to be spending with their great great grandmother.
Woa Noah.  Easy boy.  I'm not sure what was happening here.  The look on his face cracks me up.  Noah looks panicked, as if we are about to plow straight into an iceberg, and my Dad is just cruising along, checking out the lights, driving with one hand.
My sister's boyfriend David got her a very nice gift.
Her very first DSLR camera.
She was pretty excited about it.
Side note- While I am on the topic of cameras, these pics were not taken with my new lens.  These were all with my tamron 28-75 2.8.  As it got dark outside, I really had to bump up my ISO, so these pictures are pretty grainy.  Oh well.  At least I captured the moment.  Grainy or no.
Looks like a little Christmas light flare on Mr. Hass' face in this one.
My sister, my brother, me, and Claire.
I didn't even get any pictures of anyone opening presents, but my Mom did.  Hop on over to her blog if you want to take a look.

We enjoyed a delicous meal that my Grandma made, and I didn't even get any pictures of that either.
Thank you for having us over Grandma!! It sure was fun to visit with you.

Me and Mr. Hass smooching by the fire.

We got home about 8:30pm.
Kids in bed by 9pm.
Did a few last minute Christmas "preparations".
Started making my french toast strata for the morning at 10pm.
Washed my hair around 11pm.
Began the day shortly after that.

More pictures from Christmas Day coming soon.

Have ya'll recovered yet?  I am getting there...
I have to work at 9am tomorrow.  Bleh.  I don't want to get out of my pie pants.
