My Secret Spot... & Looking For A New Assistant...

For those of you who are dying to know where my photo spot was from my last post here it is...

We were at a small open lot on the corner of Garrettson St. in Corona.  It is directly across the street from the old mayor's house.  I only know about it because we pass it on the way to my Mom's house.

So there you have it.  My secret spot.  There were some guys working on the house across the street and they didn't look twice at me taking pictures on this privately owned lot.  Maybe I'm not the only one?

Remember how I wrote about needing a photog assistant in my last post?   Well I found one.  Or at least I thought I did.

I called my Mom today to see if she wanted to meet me at Dos Lagos and maybe help me get some smiles out of my subjects.

She said yea I'll be right there.
She came alright.
And she stole my subjects.

Look at her.
That photogaholic swooped right in and stole half of my subjects.
Some assitance she was to me.

Then she turned around and stole the other half of my subjects!
The nerve...

I'm just kidding Mom!  It's all in good fun.  But still, I think I need a new assistant.

My Mom posted some of her shots on her blog if you want to check those out.

And last but not least, a big shout out to my Mom & Dad for coming over to watch the girls tonight!!  We had our tax appointment at 5 (thank you Mr. Kelley for giving us a 5pm Friday appointment!), and we were done with plenty of time for a date dinner.  We went to The Alibi but I decided that it was too loud for our date dinner.  And cold (it's open to the outside and it's a small place), so we had a drink there and then went to Citrus Grille for dinner.  It was fun.

The Photogaholic Strikes Again...

I'm sorry but I just can't help myself.
Tuesday afternoon, nobody napped.
So instead of throwing my hands in the air and asking, Why? Why, why won't you sleep?...

I decided fine.
If you won't nap,
then I am making you pose for me.

I threw my two favorite subjects in the car,
and we drove off in search of the perfect photog destination.

At first I wasn't sure if my destination choice was going to work out or not.

I was hoping to achieve some fun sun flare pictures in the late afternoon.
Instead  rain was threatening, and the sky looked like this

But every once in a while the sun would peek through.

And I think I got a few fun shots.
106 pictures in a matter of minutes.
Don't worry, I'll just post my faves...

It was a lot easier to get pictures of Claire than it was of Hannah.  Usually Claire is all over the place, but in these tall flowers and grass she wouldn't really move around.  She just stayed right where I put her.

This shirt is "so Hannah".  I got it at Old Navy and it says
Be Happy, Love Life.

I think I could really benefit from an assistant while out on these photo shoots.
You know, someone to switch out props, feed me snacks, and maybe throw something of interest (like candy) at my subjects here and there.
Anyone interested?

I don't know if this one is my favorite, but it's up there.

But then again, I love all of these too...

See that sweet little baby drool all over Claire's chin?

Any guesses where we were?

Vivacious & Loquacious

Our sweet Hannah.  She's such fun.

Hannah has a zest and a passion for life unlike anyone I have ever known.  Her enthusiasm about everything she does is so genuine and sincere.  She wakes up everyday happy and smiling.  She'll say things to me in the morning like, "Good morning Mom, the sun is out! It looks nice outside!" or "Mom, is it sunny today?  Is today Saturday?  It's gonna be a real nice day Mom.  What are we gonna do today?"

The older that Hannah gets, the more aware I am of the truth in the saying that your children will "do as you do, not as you say."  I am constantly reminding myself of this.  I am trying my hardest to be a prime example for Hannah and Claire.  Hannah reminds me of it in little ways.  When it was raining so much I was having a hard time drinking as much water as I usually do (when it's cold I want a hot drink not cold ice water), so I was putting orange slices in it to spice it up.  One day Hannah asked for water, so I gave her some, and she said, "No Mom, I need orange slices in it like you."
As of the last couple weeks, we have pretty much stopped giving Hannah sippie cups.  She knows she is a big girl now, and so she needs a big girl cup.

Since Claire has begun walking, Hannah has really taken to playing with Claire more, and pulling her all over the place by her hand.  She will hold her hand and say, "C'mon Care, let's go."  And Claire just looks at her like she is the greatest.  It is so fun to see them play and have fun together.  Their giggles are one of the happiest sounds to me.  These two fill my heart with so much joy.

3 years and 3 months old

These days Hannah is so full of questions.  She asks questions about everything.  The other day in the car, out of the blue she asked me,

H- Mom, what do frogs eat?
Me- flies.
H- What else?
Me- bugs.
H- What else?
Me- insects.
H- Why?
Me- because that's what they eat.
H- What else?
Me- Do you want to listen to Raffi now?

Hannah has been doing really well learning the letters of the alphabet lately.  Another set of very common questions she asks us  have to do with letters.

H- How do you spell car?
Me- C-A-R
H- What letter does it start with?
Me- C
H- What else starts wif dat letter?
Me- cat.
H- What else?
Me- cowboy.
H- What else?
(and this goes on and on and on until I make it stop.)

Our vivacious and loquacious Hannah has been saying the funniest things lately.  I've been writing down lots of them so that we can look back and remember.  Here are a few:

-A few weeks ago Hannah was in the car with Jake and he was pointing out different clouds to her.  He pointed to one and Hannah said, "Dad those are not clouds.  That is the stuff that comes out of airplanes butts."

-On my brother's birthday we were at my parents house and I overheard Hannah talking to my Grandma and Nana.  Hannah was sitting in the big leather rocking chair all by herself, rocking back and forth and looking at Grandma and Nana on the couch.  Grandma asked Hannah, "What does your Mommy do at work?"  and Hannah replied, "She fixes peoples hair."  (I was hiding in the hallway snickering at her response.)  Then Grandma asked her "What does your Daddy do at work?" and she answered, "He makes medicines."

-Hannah told Jake one day that she doesn't want to get too tall, and if she does she will cut herself in half with scissors.  (Since then I have been talking a lot about how tall is beautiful, and the many benefits of being tall.)

-Feb. 12, Hannah was with me in Claire's room and I was just getting Claire's diaper changed after her nap.  Hannah was talking talking talking like she usually does, and I was listening with one ear as I was tending to Claire.  Then I heard what sounded like Hannah spelling something as she said " D- U-C-K-I-N-T-H-E-S-K-..."   I turned around to look at her and she was looking at Claire's book "Duck In The Truck" and she was spelling it!  I know there is no S or K in the title, but she was doing pretty darn good.  It's always when she comes up with stuff like that on her own that I realize how much she really knows.  She was also counting the other day and I heard her get to 20 correctly.

Anna took these pictures the day we met with her at Dos Lagos.  Doesn't Hannah look like a model for the store?  Well, I know I'm her mother, but I think so.

- The week of Valentine's we made a few hearts and glued them on construction paper.  Claire got a hold of one of Hannah's and she ripped it.  Hannah saw this and snatched her Valentine back from her sister, as she said with such distress in her voice "Oh noooo Mom, LOOK at my BROKEN HEART."  I had to laugh, and I said "Oh Hannah if you only knew."

-Feb. 13 Claire was banging things around in the play kitchen and making all kinds of noise.  Jake said to Hannah, "What do you think Claire's making in there?"  and Hannah said, "Dad I think Claire's just makin' a mess."

-Feb. 13 on our way to bring Jake his "heart attack", we passed by Castle Park.  Hannah saw it out the window, pointed and said, "Oh Mom look a castle!  That must be where the princesses live."

The things she says are just precious.  We are so proud of her.  She is such a smart and fun little girl.

Right now Hannah is 3 years and almost 4 months old.  She has grown 3 and 1/2 inches in 3 months.   She is 43.5 inches tall, and 45 pounds.  Our little girl.  :)

This is a picture Hannah drew of "our family" on Feb. 22

I can't wait to see what she'll learn next.
Three is a lot of fun.
Most of the time.

Getting Back In The Swing of Things

  • I am happy to say that I am feeling much better since my last post.  I was so sick on Friday.  I have not felt that achey and sick sick sick in a long time.  It is not fun.  I spent a lot of the weekend here

  • One of the worst things about being a self employed hair dresser is having to cancel a whole work day when you are sick.  I was supposed to work on Saturday and I cancelled my whole day.  I HATE to do that (sorry Tawny!) and it's never fun to try to find the time to make up for a whole day.  I'm also usually suprised by the reaction of a few people.  Sometimes the clients that I think would be the most understanding will call me back and leave a message saying, "Um, ok I guess but call me as soon as you can because I really need my roots done."  Sure thing...

  • I am so thankful for my sweet and helpful husband.  I know a lot of women say that their household falls apart when they are sick, but not mine.  Jake was so great with the girls all weekend.  Taking them on errands, and to play so that I could get some sleep, he helped with laundry, cleaning, a trip to Sam's Club, and just about all that needed to be done.  We make a good team.

  • We watched a lot of Olympics this weekend.  Are you watching?  I love watching them, especially because they are only on every 4 years. I'm still bummed that Del Bosco didn't get a medal.  Did you watch his story? Mr. Hass says that if he could afford to quit his job and train for the men's skier cross he would.  That event is pretty fun to watch.  It's new to the Olympics this year, and all of the competetors are just regular guys who are really good at skiing.  I bet Jake would do really well too, but we can't afford for him to train for 4 years and not work.  ;)

  • In between watching Olympic events, Jake and I also watched the first half of Gone With The Wind.  I've never seen it and always wanted to, so we've got it on Netflix right now.  So far, we are both really enjoying it.

  • We've started researching new washer/dryers.  Our washer has been on the fritz so we are looking to buy that first.
This morning- Hannah watching her cartoons, and Mr. Hass researching washing machines.

  • We all went to Lowe's this morning to look at washers, and that was the first time I've left the house since Thursday.  It felt good to be out.  We learned a lot about washers too.

  • Even though I was not feeling good a lot of the weekend, it was really nice to just stay home, not wear make up, lounge around, and hang out together.  The girls are almost 100% now too.  H is still coughing, and Claire is still stuffy, but they're getting there.

  • Claire had crazy hair this morning.  We called her Crazy Hair Claire.

  • The girls helped their Daddy sort out the recycle bin this morning.  The money goes to their college accounts.

  • A while back I saw the idea on Keri's blog for Project 365.  To take one picture for every day of the year, and then print them all out in a book.  I saw the idea well into January and thought oh maybe next year I'll do that.  Then recently I thought why not start it now.  Only my project will be not quite 365 pictures.  So I started a second blog.  It's called Not Quite 365...   And since you know that I am a photogaholic, picking just one photo is a little bit like torturing me, so I am allowing myself to choose two photos if I simply cannot decide on just one.

Hope ya had a nice weekend.

Love The Ones You're With.
Happy Monday.

All of this...

One antibiotic for Hannah.
One antibiotic for Claire.
One bag of Halls cough drops for me.
Two cups of hot tea today.
Two Tylenol PM waiting for me tonight.
One whole week of pre school missed for Hannah.
One healthy husband, who received a chinese fortune this week that read, "Good health will be yours for a long time."

Hi, My Name is...

Hi.
My name is Gennifer, and I am a photogaholic.
Is that a word?
It is now.
I take large amounts of pictures, in very small amounts of time.
Usually pictures of my adorable children.
My problem is I want to keep them all.
I can't delete them.
Each picture is a moment in time.  They'll never look that way or do that exact thing again.  I can't delete them.
I also can't decide which to post and which to leave out.
Therefore, I have a problem.
Hi, my name is Gennifer.  And I am a photogaholic.

On Saturday after we gave Jake his "heart attack", we had an improptu photo shoot at the church across from the hospital.  I took 213 pictures in a matter of minutes.  And my problem?  I loved almost every single one.  I can't delete them.  I can't post them all.  I'm tellin' you, I have a problem.  Here's just one of them. I'll post more soon.

Despite Hannah having a fever all weekend, it was still pretty nice.  Yesterday morning Hannah and Claire gave me this card with a gift certificate to my favorite mani/pedi place.
After a trip to the pediatrician first thing this morning, turns out Hannah has a form of RSV (fancy word for bronchitis).  Apparently it's going around, the Dr said he saw 38 kids with the same thing over the weekend at Urgent Care, and there were 10 others in the pediatrician's this morning.  In all my pictures of her this weekend I can tell by her eyes and face that she's not feeling well, but despite that, she managed to squeeze quite a bit of Valentine fun into her weekend.

After I got the girls dressed in their cute matching cupcake shirts, I took another 100 or so pictures of them outside with their new bubble wands.  Photogaholic.  I can't stop.

The weather has been absolutely gorgeous.  Oh how I love the sunshine.  It makes me happy.  I would have some serious seasonal affective disorder if I lived somewhere cold in the winter.

The girls and I made an impromptu trip out to OC to bring my Grandma a little Valentine love.  I wasn't going to go because of Hannah's fever, but during the day she seemed much better, so we went.  And of course, a beautiful sunny day, a boat ride on the lake, two cute girlies with their Grandma GG (great grandma), how could I resist taking pictures?  I took about 170 on the boat.  I might post more soon.

I've given up sugar for 30 days.  I've seen a few different people in blogland doing this, and they have inspired me.  I consumed almost an entire box of See's myself and I've decided I need a break from sugar.

I'm hoping to get a good night of sleep tonight.  Friday I stayed up way too late and Hannah woke up about 3 times.  Looking back now it makes sense that she probably wasn't feeling good.  Saturday we were up from about 1am-4am tending to Hannah's fever.  And last night I was up from about 12am-3am with an upset stomach.  Hannah also woke up a few times after that too, and then was up at 6:30am.  I'm tired.  I tried to nap today, and just as I was falling asleep on the couch I heard Hannah yell- "MOOOOOM, I got poop on me!"

And yes she did,  got poop on her.  I don't know how.  I guess she tried to wipe herself and there was diarrhea all over her and her bathroom.  So much for that nap.

On Saturday the girls and I went to the hospital...

to give Jake a "heart attack".

Thank you Mrs. Dunbar for this cute idea!

Hannah helped me decorate a posterboard for Daddy.

Claire just made a mess and tried to eat the glue.

When we finished making it on Friday, Hannah helped me find a hiding spot so Daddy wouldn't find it.  We hid it in the back of my car (which was parked in the driveway, in the direct sunshine from this glorious 80 degree weather).  When I realized that the chocolate was probably a melted mess, I went to rescue it, but too late.  So we relocated it to a better hiding spot, under my bed.  And the minute Jake got home from work Hannah said, "Daddy we made you a poster."  Apparently, she can't keep a secret.  I acted like I had no idea what she was talking about.

Since Jake worked this Valentine's weekend, I thought it might be nice if we brought him a little love.  As soon as he left for work, we made ourselves pretty, and got in the car.

We made a stop at Albertson's and got Daddy some balloons.

We walked right into the pharmacy and suprised him good.  We also brought pink and red sprinkled sugar cookies for everyone.

The girls were a bit shy in front of Daddy's co-workers.
It was a fun suprise.
Who knew giving a heart attack could be so much fun?

Will You Marry Me?

I recently saw something about a blog party on my friend Tawny's blog.  The blog party is hosted by Jen at mimi bella boo.  The party is to share your story of how you got engaged and what happened.  Thanks for this idea Jen.  With this being Valentine's weekend and all, I thought it might be fun to share.

Here's my story...

I spent the summer in Australia with my family.
I met a boy there.

Oh. Wait.  That's not my story.  That's Sandra Dee and Danny.
Please tell me you know what movie that is from.

Our story goes something like this...

In August of 2000, my grandparents took my family on our first cruise.  Jake's family was on that same cruise.  Our families were seated next to each other in the dining room.  On the second to last night of the cruise, Jake's brother Dustin approached my sister and I, asking if we would pose James Bond style in a picture with him in his white tuxedo.  (It was formal night)  We giggled, and said yes.

Don't laugh at our outfits, this was 10 years ago.  See the swarovski crystal tattoo on my arm? Remember those?

After meeting Dustin, he introduced us to his brother Jake.  My sister and I hung out with them all night.  We went line dancing, to the club on the ship, and we hung out after dinner the next night too.  They were great guys, and we thought it was too bad they lived in Idaho.  We exchanged emails, and I never thought we'd see them again.

7 months later, Dustin and my sister had kept in touch.  Jake and I exchanged a handful of emails, but that was it.  In March 2001, they drove to California with some friends during Spring Break.  My sister asked me to go with her one night to Huntington Beach, to meet up with them and have a bonfire.  I had a date, and reluctantly broke it off so that I could go with her.  She and Dustin had chatted on the phone quite a bit and she was eager to see him.  I said I'd go, but if she left me alone with this guy Jake who I don't even know, I was gonna kill her.  Of course the minute we get there, Dustin and Erika go off on a walk, and here I am with this guy I met for a couple of days nearly 8 months ago.

Once Jake and I got to talking though, something just clicked.  I felt like I had known him forever.  We talked and laughed the night away.  We had so much fun sitting by the fire getting to know each other.   I didn't want the night to end.  My sister and I talked about those boys all the way home that night.  I was so happy when Jake called me the next afternoon to ask if we wanted to have dinner with them that night.  I got off the phone and did the happy dance.  They drove to my mom's house, and the four of us went to Miguel's Sr. for dinner.  Then we came back to my parent's house and watched Remember The Titans.  It was then that we had our first kiss.

The next morning they were driving back to Boise and I wished Jake didn't have to leave.  I knew it sounded crazy, but I told my sister that night, "I think I'm going to marry him".

Jake was still in college, finishing up his rotations for the pharmacy program.  We spent a lot of time talking on the phone, and sending mail and emails to each other.  In May he flew out for my birthday and met my whole family. I fell even more in love, and I cried for days when he left. I immediately tried to figure out when I could fly to Boise next.  I went for the weekend in June and met his whole family.  I was living with my best friend Kelly in an apartment during this time.  Before I flew there, Kelly helped me pack and watched me try on every single outfit I was going to bring. So nice to have your best friend also be your live in stylist help too right?

We flew back and forth visiting each other for the next several months.

On December 8, 2001 I worked in the salon all day.  I was super tired after work, but that night my family was all going to Huntington Beach to have a bonfire.  My grandparents were bringing their motorhome, and we were going to celebrate my cousin Timmy's birthday.  After work I changed into jeans, an oversized sweatshirt, and a beanie.  My boyfriend wasn't gonna be there, so I figured who was I trying to impress.

I talked to Jake on the way to the beach.  Told him I missed him so much, and that I wished he could come to all of these things with me.  He said he wished he could too.  He told me he had just finished up skiing at Bogus Basin, and he was going to go to Red Lobster for dinner with his Mom.  I told him I'd call him when I got home, and we said goodbye.

My family acted odd on the drive down to the beach.  My Mom had been frantically cleaning her house prior to leaving.  I had no idea why because no one was coming to her house.  When my Mom saw me she said, "Oh, you're dressed casual."  Yeah.  We're going to the beach right?  It seemed odd.  Why did she care how casual I was dressed? When we were about 10 minutes from the beach, my Dad called to tell everyone.  Again, odd.  We don't usually announce our arrival.

As soon as we got there everyone else seemed to be acting odd.  My Grandma and Papa gave me the biggest hug, all my cousins were staring at me, they all threw a bunch of beach chairs in my arms, and told me to hurry and bring this down to the fire pit where Uncle Dave was sitting. I looked at everybody and just thought what in the world is going on?  I told Timmy Happy Birthday (this was his party remember) but he just kept smiling at me.  Weird.

So I drug the beach chairs down to the fire pit, looking back over my shoulder a million times to see my entire family all huddled next to each other smiling and shooing me on.  I get down to the fire that they said was ours, and there was a man sitting in a chair with his back facing me.  The man did not look like my Uncle Dave so I thought this must not be it.  I turned around to ask my family which fire pit, and they all waved their arms at me and said go on, go on.  I started to set the chairs out, and all of a sudden that man sitting there got up and turned around and smiled at me.

It was Jake!
Here, in California!
Not at Red Lobster in Idaho.
He was here...

...and he was getting down on one knee!  I was shaking, and I just couldn't get past the fact that he was here.  All I could think of on the drive to the beach was, I wish Jake was here.  I wish Jake was coming to this bonfire at Huntington Beach, where we had our first date.  And here he was!

I don't remember verbatum what he said, all I know is he said he knew that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me, and then he asked "Will you marry me?"
I said "YES!!!!"

After we had our moment, and I slowly began to believe that he was actually here, we made our way back up to the motorhome, where my family was clapping and yelling and hootin' and hollerin'.  Then I saw Jake's Mom come out of the motorhome and give me a hug.  I couldn't believe she was there too!  It was such a suprise.

That's Diane (my mother in law) in the red sweater.  In the top left picture I was saying to her that I can't believe you guys are here!  I can't believe I had no idea!  I really thought Jake went skiing today!

It meant so much to me that Jake had my whole family in on it.  And now, looking back, it is so special that my Papa (my Mom's Dad) was there to celebrate too.  He was a great Grandpa, and an incredible man.  He passed away from lung cancer 7 years ago.  It's hard to believe it's been that long.  That night, Papa popped the cork on the champagne, and filled all of our glasses.  With the whole family gathered around he raised his glass and toasted to us.  It was such a special moment.  I will never ever forget it.  My grandparents have 11 grandchildren.  I am the oldest granddaughter, and the first to get married.  It was a special day.  It kills me that I do not have a picture of my Papa from that night.

Left to Right- Diane, Jake, Me, my Mom, my Dad, my brother Drew, and my sister Erika

Jake, Diane, my Grandma, my Uncle David, and my Aunt Glenda

There's a little story that goes with the picture above.  My Grandma has always told my sister and I that there are just two kinds of diamonds.  Omigods, and canardlys.  What are those you might ask?  Well, Grandma says omigod, is for when you see a diamond that is so big and beautiful you say "Oh my God".  And when you see one that is not so big and beautiful, it is probably so small you can hardly see it,  a canardly.  Grandma said I definitely got an "omigod".

After our champagne toast, and lots of hugs and congratulations, the whole family was hitting the road.  I was still like, what?  You are leaving now?  What about Timmy's birthday?  They laughed and said this was not for Tim's birthday, and now we're leaving and you and Jake are staying the night in the motorhome alone.  What?  We were?  My sister had packed me a bag, and Grandma and Papa were going to pick us up in the morning and we were going to meet up with everyone again for brunch at the Yorba Linda Country Club.  Another fun suprise!
I was so incredibly excited to be staying the night with Jake alone.  And do you know that within 5 minutes of everyone leaving, he was passed out asleep already!  I guess he had been a bit stressed, and nervous, and he was worn out.  So I stayed awake all night staring at my beautiful ring.

The soon to be Mr. & Mrs. Hass at the country club in the morning.
Again, do not laugh at my jeans, shoes, or shirt.  It was a LONG time ago people.

That's my Papa with the white hair.  I know you can't really see him, but this is my only picture of him from that weekend.  I wish I had one of us with him.  The rest of the people in this picture are my cousins, and my Uncle Tim.  I think Papa and my cousin Matt were watching a "game" on his little tv there.

My Mom's good friend Anita took engagement pictures for us at a golf course in Temecula.

And on July 13, 2002 we became
Mr. & Mrs. Jacob Hass

It was a happy day.

It's been a happy almost 8 years of marriage.  Now one house, one dog, and two kids later, I don't think I could be happier.

I knew I was gonna marry him...
